Join us as we dive into the transformative journey of the webcam industry through the eyes of a true industry insider, exploring the shifts, advancements, and fascinating nuances that have shaped this dynamic field.

Tell us about your background. Who are you, when did you enter the industry, and what roles have you played since?

I have been involved in the webcam industry for over 15 years. I started out as a chat host, but eventually I felt burned out as a model. However, my passion for the adult industry remained strong and I didn’t want to change my line of work (and still don’t). For a while, I was simultaneously streaming, translating, advising, photographing, and mentoring newcomers, among many other roles.

For the past 10 years, my primary focus has been community management. My team and I play an important role as a «bridge» between sites, models, studios, and users, ensuring seamless communication and continuous improvement of the platform.

How has the industry changed over the years? What are the biggest changes you have seen in the industry between when you started and now?

The industry has undergone a major transformation, especially in terms of opportunities for models: 20 years ago, models’ activities were limited to chat rooms and profiles on sites (with a few photos and videos). But since then, the situation has evolved dramatically. Now there are countless new tools and possibilities ranging from social networks, interactive toys, messaging platforms for paid sexting, marketplaces for selling various content, and even personal items like panties. It is truly amazing!

How has Covid impacted the camming industry and how has it been able to survive?

Covid has brought a huge stigma to webcamming productions and brought about some interesting changes. During the lockdown, streaming became a viable way for many newcomers to make money. In addition, webcam models provided companionship and joy to those feeling lonely or depressed.

What do you think is the secret to the rising popularity of webcams and how has it continued to grow in popularity over the years?

Webcams have long since emerged from their niche of «weird stuff for kinky nerds. Movies, TV series, and magazine articles featuring webcam models and their experiences have brought webcams into the mainstream. Many platforms are eagerly adopting the latest technologies, ensuring that webcamming remains relevant and appealing to a diverse audience. This unstoppable process will continue.

Where do you see the industry heading in the next five years? Will we see any groundbreaking advancements or new features?

Webcamming will undoubtedly continue to thrive and improve over the next five years. New players will enter the market while others may exit. Technological advances will add exciting twists. But the core essence of webcamming, which revolves around pure human interaction and communication, will not change.

Some might argue that the adult industry is exploitative and harmful to women. How much truth is there in that claim? In your opinion, is the camming industry interested in empowering women?

This is a complex and controversial issue. However, from a webcamming perspective, the industry operates under the principle of «My Chat My Rules,» which allows models to control their experience on the site. This minimizes the risk of exploitation and provides a safe and secure environment for models to earn. In addition, webcamming has played a role in breaking the stigma of sex work in general, and it is hoped that this trend will continue.

What makes webcamming different from traditional pornography? Can they be grouped in the same category?

Both webcams and traditional pornography are included in the umbrella term «sex work.» The key difference, however, lies in who has the final say. In traditional porn, the director has the decision-making authority, whereas in webcamming, the model has the final authority, even in the face of user requests. This fundamental difference sets webcamming apart from traditional AV.

When users use webcamming, what are they looking for? What is the profile of the high-end consumer?

Communication, understanding, love, support, and non-judgmental acceptance. The profile of a high-cost consumer depends on the person’s financial ability and the advice they receive from their financial advisor.

What would you tell someone who is starting a career in Cam?

I would advise anyone looking to become a cam model to avoid comparisons to other streamers in the early stages. It is important to embrace the learning process and not get depressed if you don’t succeed right away.

Seek advice from experienced colleagues and take time to make an informed decision. Finally, carefully read the rules of the platform you plan to stream to avoid unnecessary trouble. Doing so should save you from headaches.
