What to check before you install

Engine & build integrity
Trace the file to the developer’s release page. Distinguish official builds from repacks or forks. Check engine requirements and published checksums where available. A matching checksum is not a malware test.
Save migration & persistent storage
Locate and back up the save directory before upgrading. Keep that backup separate from the installation. Check migration notes and cloud-sync behaviour before overwriting progress or uninstalling the old build.
Permission & payment boundaries
