INDIA · VERIFY BEFORE YOU SHARE
Treat every directory profile as a lead, not proof. Confirm the final domain, the responsible operator and what a verification badge actually checks. Keep identity documents, payment credentials and private media out of the conversation until the purpose, recipient and complaint route are clear.

Country labels do not verify people, payments or operators

An India label can describe a collection without establishing who controls a listing or where data is processed. A logo, local phone number or verification mark does not prove consent, current identity or legal status. Use the profile to locate the source, then repeat the checks on the final domain.

Choose an India profile to inspect

Each card opens a separate YPA profile. Confirm the current destination, operator notice and reporting route at the source before relying on changeable claims. Inclusion is not a ranking, endorsement or identity certification.

Check what is verified—and what is not

A badge can cover an account, a phone number, a submitted image or an identity document. Those are different checks with different limits.

Match the final domain

Open the profile destination directly, inspect redirects and match the operator name to the privacy and complaint pages. Similar spelling, a copied logo or a local domain fragment is not ownership evidence.

Define the badge scope

Look for a plain explanation of the check, its date and whether it applies to the account or to a person. Do not infer consent, availability, age, location or lawful activity from an undefined label.

Use a second channel

Confirm material claims through a separately found contact route. Reverse-search public images where appropriate, but remember that matching media can also be copied. Stop when identifiers conflict.

Four controls before data or money leaves your device

Reduce exposure first. A persuasive chat, urgent request or familiar payment interface does not replace independent verification.

01

Minimise identity data

Do not send Aadhaar, PAN, passport or a selfie with an identity document through an unexplained channel. Ask why it is needed, who receives it, how long it is kept and how deletion can be requested.

02

Sandbox the contact

Use a separate browser profile and unique password, deny unnecessary camera, microphone, contact and location permissions, and keep unknown files away from your main photo library or cloud account.

03

Strip metadata

Share the minimum-resolution copy only when necessary. Remove location and device metadata, review the visible background and never assume cropping removes the original file or its embedded details.

04

Reject advance-fee pressure

Pause when a deposit, verification fee, travel payment, gift card, QR request or off-platform transfer is made urgent. The RBI’s BE(A)WARE guide documents QR, remote-access, credential and advance-fee fraud patterns. Confirm the recipient independently; never share an OTP, PIN or screen-control access.

Map the controller, purpose and request route

OFFICIAL TEXT

Read the commencement boundary

India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 says provisions commence on dates appointed by Gazette notification, which may differ. Check the current official position before assuming a duty or deadline applies.

REQUEST CONTENT

Identify the disputed data precisely

The Act’s text describes routes concerning access information, correction, updating, erasure and grievance redressal, subject to its conditions. Record the exact URL, account, image and requested change; do not send extra identity data by default.

SCOPE

Separate law from platform policy

A platform form may be useful without deciding legal jurisdiction. The operator, processing activity, person affected and applicable commencement notification matter. This page provides navigation guidance, not legal advice.

Build a removal trail that can be followed

What should the first report contain?

Preserve the URL, date, account name, transaction reference and a minimal screenshot. State what is inaccurate, impersonating, non-consensual or unauthorised and the exact action requested. Avoid redistributing sensitive material as evidence.

What do India’s intermediary rules describe?

The official IT Rules text describes published grievance-officer details and complaint handling for intermediaries. It also distinguishes platform grievance handling from specified court or government notices. Read the current official materials for the particular service and complaint.

What if money or credentials were sent?

Contact the bank or payment provider through its independently found official channel, secure affected accounts and preserve transaction references. Report suspected crime promptly through the applicable official cybercrime or local police route; a directory correction alone cannot reverse a payment.

Which YPA route fits?

Use the Corrections Policy for inaccurate YPA directory information. Use the DMCA route for a qualifying copyright complaint. Material hosted elsewhere must also be reported to the service that controls it.

Does a takedown request guarantee removal?

No. A published form, acknowledgement or policy does not prove the outcome. Keep case numbers and responses, follow the stated escalation route and seek qualified local advice where rights, safety or evidence preservation are at stake.

Practical checks without blanket assurances

Yellow Pages Adult connects this India collection to six individual profiles and explains how to evaluate their sources. Country labels, platform statements, official legal texts and tested outcomes are different kinds of evidence. This guide does not certify an operator, establish a person’s identity, determine legal status or promise a complaint result.
